COLIN N JORDAN

May 2056, Berkshire, England, Mike Randall stops at a security checkpoint for clearance to enter the UK’s premier institute for biomedical ethics.

After an almost thirty-year military career, Mike’s adjustment to civilian life seems to be well on track after five years in retirement, during which hours of therapy had successfully subdued his former hair-trigger temper and  hypervigilance.

Now in the the solitary tranquillity of life living in a secure London residence, Mike finds the monotony of bachelor living increasingly stifling. So, seeking a change, he secures a position as a debt collector at the Percival Institute for Biomedical Ethics. However, suspicions about his new employer begin to rise right from his initial interview, which would later catapult Mike into a labyrinth of deception, duplicity, and questionable scientific practices.

Also on day one, Mike meets the cool and elegant Danutė, a scientist and the first woman in years that Mike is tempted to make a final stab at a relationship with, although the social rules had well and truly changed in the twenty years since he’d last had female company.

Meanwhile, as Mike pursues the corporate entities in his portfolio, he soon discovers that debt recovery is merely the tip of the iceberg, as the roulette of scientific progress reveals itself to be a perilous game, where the dice are crafted from the very essence of human existence.

So, how will Mike, and Danutė, face down the corporate giants and unscrupulous backers who have sold their souls for a slice of the scientific holy grail and its astronomical in profits?
